The CHD family of proteins is characterized by the presence of chromo (chromatin organization modifier) domains and SNF2-related helicase/ATPase domains. Patients with dermatomyositis develop antibodies against the nuclear antigen chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 4. The protein exists in a complex containing histone deacetylase and nucleosome remodeling activities, suggesting a role for chromatin reorganization in cancer metastasis.
