β-NGF is a neurotrophic factor structurally related to BDNF, NT-3 and NT-4. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. β-NGF is a potent neurotrophic factor that signals through its receptor β-NGFR, and plays a crucial role in the development and preservation of the sensory and sympathetic nervous systems. β-NGF also acts as a growth and differentiation factor for B lymphocytes, and enhances B-cell survival. The functional form of Recombinant human β-NGF is a non-covalently-linked homodimer of two 13.5kD, polypeptide monomers that each contain 120 amino acids and three disulfide bonds, which are required for biological activity.

Biological Activity
Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells. The expected ED50 is ≤ 1ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of ≥1x10e6 units/mg.

Storage and Stability
Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
