(3-[(3-Cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-2-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonate)

Non-denaturing zwitterionic detergent with cholic acid and sulfobetaine moieties, used to dissolve biological membranes, useful for protein extraction methods due to its ease of removal by dialysis or gel filtration. Low background UV absorption for protein detection. Designed by Good, et al., and typically referred to as Good’s buffer useful in cell culture media formulations. Selection of biological buffer systems should include the following criteria: exclusion by biological membranes, low absorption between 240 and 700nm, chemically stable, and stable to temperature and concenetration changes.
