Oncostatin M (OSM) is a growth and differentiation factor that participates in the regulation of neurogenesis, osteogenesis and hematopoiesis. Produced by activated T cells, monocytes and Kaposi’s sarcoma cells, OSM can exert both stimulatory and inhibitory effects on cell proliferation. It stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells and Kaposi’s sarcoma cells, but inhibits the growth of some normal and tumor cell lines. It also promotes cytokine release (e.g. IL-6, GM-CSF and G-CSF) from endothelial cells, and enhances the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptors in hepatoma cells. OSM shares several structural and functional characteristics with LIF, IL-6, and CNTF. Human OSM is active on murine cells. Recombinant human Oncostatin M is a 25.7kD protein, containing 227 amino acid residues (full length precursor).
Biological Activity The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of human TF-1 cells is ≤2ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of ≥ 5x10e5 units/mg.

Storage and Stability
Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, 0.1% BSA or HSA. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Source
Recombinant, E. coli
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, 0.1% HSA or BSA to ≥0.1-1mg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
