PDZK1 (PDZ Domain-containing 1; also CFTR-associated protein of 70kD/CAP70) is a 65-70kD member of the NHER (Na/H Exchange Regulator) family of proteins. It is only expressed in epithelium, particularly that found in intestine, kidney and liver. PDZK1 serves as a scaffold protein that connects cell membrane proteins to cytoplasmic regulators. It also serves a critical role in basal-level bicarbonate secretion. Mouse PDZK1 is 519aa in length and contains four PDZ domains (aa9-90; 128-215; 243-323; and 378-458) plus three phosphorylation sites at Ser489, Ser492 and Ser514. Mouse PDZK1 shares 78% and 91% aa identity with human and rat PDZK1, respectively.
