Sugar Free Agar is used for the enumeration of psychrotrophic and mesophilic Gram-negative rods, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. A formula described by the International Dairy Federation for the enumeration of psychrotrophic and mesophilic Gram negative rods in butter and other dairy products. The Gram negative rods are able to deaminate proteins as a carbon source, whilst some enterococci are inhibited by this formula. The medium conforms to the formulation of the International Dairy Federation (I.D.F.).

Preparation
1. Suspend 34 grams of the medium in one liter of purified water. 2. Heat with frequent agitation and boil for one minute to completely dissolve the medium. 3. Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes. 4. Cool to 45-50°C.
