Urokinase is a potent 50kD serine protease which is also known as urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA). uPA cleaves and activates plasminogen to form plasmin and is involved in extracellular cellular matrix degradation and cell signalling. Recent studies have implicated uPA and its receptor in the pathogenesis of inflammation and immunity.

A specific polymorphism in the gene encoding uPA may be associated with late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. The levels of uPA, uPAR and its soluble fragments have also been found to be increased in tissues, plasma and other body fluids of cancer patients and to be markers of cancer development and metastasis.
Applications
Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilutions
ELISA: 1:16,000 Immunohistochemistry (paraffin): 8ug/ml using paraffin embedded Human Prostate and Placenta. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Immunogen
Peptide corresponding to C-HFLPWIRSHTKEEN from the C-terminal of human Urokinase.
Form
Supplied as a liquid in Tris-saline, pH 7.3, 0.02% sodium azide, 0.5% BSA.
Purity
Purified by immunoaffinity chromatography.
Specificity
Recognizes an epitope within the C-terminal of human urokinase.
