Ferrocene is used as a precursor in the synthesis of ferrocifen derivatives which display antitumor activity and may be used in the development of new anticancer drugs. It is also used in the synthesis of ferrocenyl phosphine derivatives which are used as a reagent in transition metal-catalyzed reactions.
