L-Leucine 7-amido-4-methylcoumarin (L7AAMC) is a small and potent protease inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the activity of a number of enzymes, including proteases such as cathepsins and calpains. It is also known to be an inhibitor of neutrophil elastase, which has been implicated in inflammatory diseases. L7AAMC inhibits the proteolytic activity of these enzymes by binding to their active site and blocking enzyme access to its substrate. The inhibition of these enzymes may lead to reduced inflammation and less tissue damage. L7AAMC also blocks the uptake of growth factors into cells, which may have implications for cancer treatment.
